The latest research has linked periodontal (gum) disease to systemic manifestations in the body such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, pre-term low-weight babies, and inflammatory disease. The presence of bleeding in the gums represents the presence of an active infection, and it must be properly treated as early as possible. The latest research also shows that gum disease is caused by the formation of a very intricate architecture of bacterial colonies called Biofilm.

Proper microsonic instrumentation must be used under the gums to destroy the architecture of Biofilm: the sonic action actually ruptures the cell membranes of the bacteria, and the anti-microbial medicament used to irrigate flushes the bacteria out and disinfects the gum tissue. A non-painful laser may also be used at times to disinfect and sterilize the gum tissue surrounding each tooth. We also recommend and sell the Sonicare toothbrush for you to use at home, providing you with constant sonic action between professional cleanings, to aid in preventing the formation of Biofilm.
